Connect Your Device
Visit ledger.com/start and select your model. Connect your Ledger via USB (or Bluetooth for Nano X/Stax). The site will automatically detect your device.
Initialize New Wallet
Choose "Set up as new device" if this is your first Ledger. For recovery, select "Restore from recovery phrase".
Firmware Update
The setup will check and install the latest firmware. Never use outdated firmware as it may contain security vulnerabilities.
Create PIN Code
Set a 4-8 digit PIN. This is your first line of defense if the device is stolen. The Ledger will wipe itself after 3 incorrect attempts.
Write Down Recovery Phrase
Your 24-word recovery phrase will display on the device screen. Write it manually on the included recovery sheet. Never store it digitally.
Verify Recovery Phrase
The device will ask you to confirm random words from your phrase to ensure you recorded it correctly.
Install Ledger Live
Download the official Ledger Live app for your operating system (Windows/macOS/Linux). This is your dashboard for managing crypto assets.
Add Crypto Accounts
In Ledger Live, install the apps for your preferred cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) through the Manager tab.
